Regrets, Words That Shouldn’t Have Been Said

Words can have a powerful impact on people, and once they are spoken, they cannot be taken back. We have all experienced a moment when we said something we regretted immediately. Whether it was said in the heat of an argument or in a moment of anger, the impact of those words can linger long after they are spoken.

It is important to recognize the weight that our words carry and to understand the impact they can have on others. Words have the power to lift people up, but they also have the power to tear them down. Once words are spoken, they can leave lasting scars that may never fully heal.

It is easy to get caught up in the moment and say things we don’t mean. We may use hurtful words to lash out at others or express our frustrations, but in the end, we often regret those words. It’s a common human trait to be affected by our emotions and let them dictate our actions, but it’s important to remember the consequences of our words.

We all carry the burden of words we wish we hadn’t said. It’s a universal experience that we all share. The sting of regret when we realize the impact of our words can be overwhelming. We may wish we could go back in time and take back what we said, but unfortunately, once those words are spoken, they cannot be erased.

So, how can we avoid saying things we will later regret? It starts with mindfulness and self-awareness. By being more in tune with our emotions and taking a moment to think before speaking, we can avoid saying things we don’t mean. It’s important to remember that once words are spoken, we cannot control how they will affect others.

Apologizing for hurtful words is a step in the right direction, but the damage has already been done. It’s important to strive for kindness and empathy in our words, taking into consideration how they will impact those around us. We should aim to lift others up, rather than tear them down with our words.

In conclusion, regrets often stem from words that should never have been said. The impact of our words can weigh heavily on us and those around us. It’s important to be mindful of the weight our words carry and strive to use them for good. Let’s work on using our words to uplift and support each other, rather than to cause pain and regret.

MEMOIR OF AN UNRECRUITED LOVE (CHAPTER THREE)

A decision made in haste

Feelings, and emotions that later turn to waste

Here I come with a bead that couldn`t size her waist(too small)

Silently I prayed, even once the warmth of her love I taste

Is it I, my love or where I am she hates?

She replied: of course, no problem, collected my phone and her hand glided through my screen as she punched in her digits. Saved and hurriedly I dropped her a message online, a few hours later I saw her message pop up, we started chatting and after some minutes we got emersed in the conversation unknowingly. She is a lively person and I quickly get drawn to her, especially when the subject of discussion is Education (books/novels, lectures, advice and hot topics) she seems to quickly take it to heart with her utmost attention.

The next day was a quiz day for the freshmen as we are still in the fresh men week, luckily which I thought was faith (chuckles) but nah who still believes in that anyway? Among all the departments present our department was also participating in it and we were selected to represent the department. However, I wasn`t that surprised it was an impromptu and short quiz competition between the freshmen and the seniors, in case you don`t know I`ve been a star boy since my secondary school days representing the school in various competitions both home and away so I’ve gotten used to the momentum I said to the Dept Head and AI. She was the first to step up and glorify the stage with her presence, fluent English, a hundred per cent composure, and good content which is on point the judges were left in awe so was I. After the end of the round the results were announced and she came in 2nd which was nice, it was one of the seniors who came in first position fairly.

In my white Three quarters and a designer top, in glasses, as I walked with her to the stage for the quiz round, confidently I sat down and was ready to start unfolding the wrap before us. Questions pouring in, answers flowing and impatiently looking at the leader board, it came to an end and the ranks were announced. It`s quite funny that we came out for the 2nd position again which was nice too, it was a moment I enjoyed and envied a lot at the same time, with praises from each side, handshakes, motivating speeches and jealous looks, I could easily decipher those signs.

After taking a few pictures as mementoes which I hate keeping actually but I just thought I must take this, time went by quickly and I was already in my hostel staring at the ceiling wondering if it might be too early to ask her on a date when we just met actually and haven’t used more than one to Two weeks in school but at the same time life is short and we have to live the moment I thought. Picked up my phone after much deliberation and dialled her number, wasn’t reachable, I then sent a direct message asking her over for a cup of coffee that I had something to discuss, but no reply and wasn’t sure if the message was read I knew it was surely delivered. I called again the next day and this time around she picked up, trying to act as cool as I could I asked “HELLO DEAR, I SENT A MESSAGE YESTERDAY WAS IT DELIVERED?” knowing fully it was, she replied, “YEAH I DID BUT WAS QUITE BUSY CAN`T WE TALK ONLINE?” I asked for some minutes and switched the call to a WhatsApp call then I took the bull by the horn, she smiled and said BLACKIE I will be true to you I`m not ready for that and I don’t think I will till I acquire the certificate I came for, surprised and immediately filled with regrets that why did I? what was I thinking? Among all things, Rejection is what I fear most that’s why I try to stay within my boundaries. I looked and the phone and saw we’d talked for almost 40 minutes

I smiled and replied, “No problem.” “I will remind you when the day comes that you said you weren’t interested till you get what you came for,” she challenged. I greeted her and we hung up the call. For some reason, I wasn’t disappointed in her response because it was mature and respectful. The rest, I don’t want to know. The next time we spoke, we acted like nothing happened and we still got along. However, a guy approached me and asked, “Are you BLACKIE?” to which I replied, “Yes.”

“Someone told me about something that happened yesterday and mentioned your name. I’ve been searching for you to confirm what was said. Can you tell me anything about it?” I asked, confused. “I don’t recall arguing or fighting since I arrived on campus.” The person I was talking to chuckled before replying.………………………………………..
